After Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made Shubman Gill the new captain of the Test team. He will be seen leading the team in the five-match Test series next month. On Sunday, the BCCI released a special interview with the new Test captain of the Indian team, Shubman Gill. In this, he was seen talking about preparations for the upcoming series. During this, he also discussed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Which qualities of Rohit-Virat inspire Gill?
25-year-old batsman Shubman Gill is the 37th Test captain of the Indian team. He is also the fifth youngest captain. In a video released by the BCCI on Sunday, Gill discussed the qualities of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He said- 'Both were very opposite in terms of their style, but it was very inspiring to see both of them working towards a common goal. You want to win as a captain and your style can be different. They were both very different, but also similar in their sense. Virat bhai was always very aggressive, and always wanted to lead by going forward with hunger and passion, while Rohit bhai was also aggressive, but you cannot see it in his reaction or his gestures. He was someone who was always very aggressive on the field.'
Gill got a mantra from seniors.
Apart from this, Gill also told how senior players like Virat, Rohit, and Ravichandran Ashwin gave him the mantra to succeed in foreign conditions. He further said- 'Rohit bhai was a very calm and clever person, always present and he used to communicate a lot with the players about what he wanted from the players. And so these are the qualities I have learned from him. People like Rohit bhai, Virat bhai, and Ashwin bhai have given us the mantra to tour outside home and win matches and series.'
Gill made his Test debut in Australia.
Gill made his Test debut in 2020-21 on the Australia tour. He played a brilliant innings of 91 runs in the Test at the Gabba. By winning this match, Ajinkya Rahane's Team India had taken an unassailable 2-1 lead over Australia. Since then, Gill has scored 1893 runs in 32 Tests at an average of 35.03. This includes five centuries and seven half-centuries. During this, he has hit 210 fours and 31 sixes. However, Gill's record outside India has not been anything special. Especially in England, Gill has not been able to do anything special. There he has also played two World Test Championship finals. In three matches in England, he has scored 88 runs at an average of less than 15. In Australia, Gill has represented India in six Tests and scored 352 runs at an average of 35.20. This includes two half-centuries.
