What has happened so far in the Galle Test?
Sri Lankan batsmen were seen struggling in their first innings. Oshada Fernando was the first batsman to get out on seven runs, who was LBW out by Matthew Kuhnemann. Former captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Matthews also could not last long. Both fell prey to Australia's excellent fielding. Karunaratne got out on a brilliant catch in the gully off Mitchell Starc's ball on seven runs and Matthews got out on seven runs. Travis Head caught Matthews off Nathan Lyon's off spin. Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis stood firm till stumps facing some challenging moments. Sri Lanka's team is still 610 runs behind on a deteriorating pitch and is in a delicate situation.

Khwaja hit a brilliant double century

Australia started playing on Thursday morning at 330 runs for two wickets in which opener Usman Khawaja and acting captain Steve Smith were at the crease after scoring centuries. Smith, who completed 10,000 Test runs on the first day, played a brilliant innings of 141 runs off 251 balls. His 266-run partnership with Khawaja is the highest partnership for the third wicket in a Test match between the two teams. They surpassed the previous best partnership of 200 runs between Adam Gilchrist and Damien Martyn in 2004 at Kandy.

Inglis' stormy century in debut Test

After Smith was given LBW by Vandersay, Khawaja brilliantly rotated the strike and hit the loose balls across the boundary. Khawaja then completed his first double century and Josh Inglis became the 21st Australian to score a century on debut. Khawaja's 232-run innings played in 352 balls over eight hours was historic. He is the first Australian to score a double century in Sri Lanka. This is Australia's highest individual Test score against Sri Lanka. At the age of 38, he is the second player after Don Bradman to score a double century for Australia. Khawaja was caught behind the wicket off left-arm bowler Prabhat Jayasuriya.

Inglis missed out on breaking Dhawan's record

Inglis (102 runs) also played fast and did not take much time to score his century. He scored a century in just 90 balls, making him the second fastest player to score 100 runs in debut among male cricketers after India's Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan scored a century in just 85 balls in 2013. Inglis strengthened Australia's dominance with a 146-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
