According to Vastu, stairs should never be constructed in the Brahma place (middle place of the house) or Ishaan corner of the house. Apart from this, you can build stairs in any direction. The south-west corner (south-west place of the house) is the most suitable for constructing stairs. Constructing stairs at this place leads to the progress of all the members of the house. After this, you have the option of constructing stairs in the south, west, northwest, east, and north directions.

While constructing stairs, keep in mind that the number of stairs should never be even. Always make the number of stairs odd like 5, 7, 11, 21, 13, 23, etc. Do not construct a kitchen, bathroom, toilet temple, etc. under the stairs even by mistake.

If the stairs go straight without any turn, then it is not considered good. Because in Vastu, stairs are considered a factor of progress. The turn of the stairs towards the right hand is better. Do not get the stairs constructed towards the left-hand. While constructing stairs, always keep in mind that they should never pass over the room.
