Persistent monsoon rains across various parts of the country, including Delhi-NCR, and landslides in the mountains have compounded difficulties. Heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR led to waterlogging on roads, causing massive traffic jams. Between Thursday morning and afternoon, knee-deep water accumulated in several areas of the capital, causing significant inconvenience to schoolchildren and motorists. Delhi recorded 56 mm of rainfall on Thursday, resulting in a 5-degree drop in the maximum temperature over 24 hours; this brought relief to residents troubled by heat and humidity. Meanwhile, Gurugram recorded 117 mm of rainfall.

Simultaneously, landslides in the mountainous regions have exacerbated the situation, leading to road closures in many areas. More than 250 roads are blocked, including 132 in Uttarakhand and 120 in Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains have reportedly caused extensive damage to apple orchards in Shopian, Jammu & Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the region from August 9 to 12.

Gurugram: Appeal for 'Work from Home'
Heavy rain on Thursday morning caused waterlogging on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, Dhaula Kuan, Kalindi Kunj, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Green Park, AIIMS, and other routes, forcing vehicles to crawl for hours. In light of the situation, Gurugram Police have appealed to private companies to allow employees to work from home.

95 Deaths in Assam So Far
The flood situation in Assam remains critical. With the death of six more people, the toll for the season has risen to 95. Over 1.6 lakh people across the state have been affected by the floods.

'Yellow Alert' for Rain in 15 States, Including Delhi, Today
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Friday across 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Strong winds reaching speeds of 60 kmph are expected during this period. Additionally, landslide warnings have been issued for the hilly states. The department has advised farmers and fishermen to move to safe locations.
