The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a widespread weather alert for August 7, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across several parts of the country. According to the latest forecast, active monsoon conditions are expected to affect 15 states, with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph in many areas and even higher in isolated locations.

The weather department has also advised farmers, fishermen, and residents in flood-prone regions to remain cautious, as persistent rainfall could trigger waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Monsoon System Remains Active

The IMD said the current spell of intense rainfall is being driven by active monsoon conditions and upper-air cyclonic circulations over parts of eastern and northern India.

Weather systems over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and the coastal region of Gangetic West Bengal are expected to keep rainfall activity strong over large parts of the country during the day.

Besides heavy rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely in several states.

15 States Under Heavy Rain Alert

The weather department has issued heavy rainfall warnings for the following states:

• Bihar
• Delhi
• Rajasthan
• Uttarakhand
• Haryana
• Punjab
• Himachal Pradesh
• Jammu & Kashmir
• Jharkhand
• West Bengal
• Odisha
• Assam
• Gujarat
• Maharashtra

Several districts in these states may experience intense rainfall over short durations, leading to localized flooding and disruption to road transport.

Delhi Likely to Witness Rain and Gusty Winds

The national capital is expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the day.

According to the forecast:

• Heavy rain is possible in parts of Delhi.
• Wind speeds may reach 40–50 kmph during thunderstorms.
• The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 28°C, while the minimum temperature may stay near 27°C.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.

Uttar Pradesh on High Alert

Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness heavy rainfall along with strong winds.

Cities and districts including Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Chandauli, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Deoria, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur are likely to experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of up to 60 kmph.

Lucknow is expected to record temperatures between 28°C and 33°C.

Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand May Receive Intense Rain

Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for several districts across Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Khagaria, Begusarai, Buxar, Rohtas, and Bhojpur.

In Jharkhand, cities such as Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Simdega, and Deoghar may experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. Some areas could witness wind speeds of 70–80 kmph.

In Uttarakhand, districts including Nainital, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Almora, and Bageshwar are expected to receive heavy showers with gusty winds.

Rain and Thunderstorm Warning for Hill States

The IMD has also forecast widespread rainfall across the Himalayan region.

Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rain is expected in Shimla, Kullu, Kangra, Solan, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, and Mandi, accompanied by winds of 50–55 kmph.

Jammu & Kashmir

Districts including Jammu, Poonch, Kathua, Kulgam, Shopian, Rajouri, Ganderbal, Bandipora, and Kishtwar are likely to receive heavy rainfall.

The weather department has also warned of the possibility of landslides in vulnerable hilly areas due to continuous rainfall.

Heavy Rain Expected in Eastern and Northern India

Several districts in West Bengal, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan are also expected to experience rain and thunderstorms.

In Rajasthan, districts such as Jaipur, Bharatpur, Karauli, Alwar, Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Dausa, and Shahpura are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with strong winds.

Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Pradesh may witness heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50–55 kmph.
