Jim Corbett National Park Safari Zone: With the onset of the monsoon, most of Jim Corbett National Park's famous tourism zones closed to visitors on June 15. Amidst this, the 'Fato Zone' in Ramnagar has emerged as a welcome relief for wildlife enthusiasts and tourists. It is the only zone in Corbett that remains open for jungle safaris throughout the year. Here, not only can you catch a glimpse of the massive and renowned 'Hercules' tiger, but you also get the chance to stay in a treehouse on a budget and enjoy thrilling jeep safaris. Let us explore the highlights of the Fato Zone and the booking process.

Most tourism zones in Corbett National Park have closed due to the monsoon season starting on June 15. Consequently, the Fato Zone has become a boon for tourists, as jungle safaris can still be enjoyed here. It is proving to be an excellent choice for wildlife enthusiasts.
The Fato Zone's biggest attraction is the frequently sighted, famous 'Hercules' tiger. He is immensely popular among tourists due to his massive physique and commanding presence; many visitors travel here just to catch a glimpse of him. Additionally, you might also spot a tigress here.
Located in the Terai West Forest Division of Ramnagar, the Fato Zone is rapidly becoming a favorite among tourists. Over 50,000 visitors arrive here annually. It has become one of the busiest safari zones, second only to Dhikala. The area features several natural water holes where animals are frequently seen drinking water.
Jeep safaris in the Fato Zone begin at the entrance located at Mohan Nagar, Maldhan. Fifty jeep safaris operate here in the morning and another fifty in the evening. Each safari lasts approximately three hours, offering a chance to admire the forest's beauty and spot wildlife. This is why it is a top choice for tourists; the thrilling safari experience here will make your trip truly memorable. In the Phato Zone, apart from tigers, wildlife such as elephants, leopards, sambar deer, wild boars, and bears can easily be spotted. Additionally, several rare bird species are found here, making it an ideal location for wildlife photography.
The two treehouses in the Phato Zone offer tourists a unique experience of staying amidst the forest. These elevated accommodations allow visitors to experience nature up close. The fresh morning air and the chirping of birds further enhance the overall experience.
The 'Pink Water Hole' and 'Green Water Hole' within the Phato Zone are major attractions for wildlife. Animals frequently visit these spots to drink water, allowing tourists to observe them at close quarters.
The Phato Zone is a relatively affordable option compared to other safari zones. Tourists can enjoy a safari by booking a jeep for approximately ₹6,000, with permit fees ranging from ₹1,500 to ₹2,000. A separate fee of ₹900 is mandatory for the guide. This safari offers an exciting experience at a reasonable cost.
Due to the Phato Zone's growing popularity, the demand for bookings is constantly rising. Securing a spot during weekends and holidays can be difficult; therefore, tourists are advised to book well in advance. You can make your reservation through the official Jim Corbett website or via local contacts. However, it is essential to verify details before booking, as incidents of online fraud related to safari and hotel reservations have been reported during the tourist season; please exercise caution when booking.
