How to Make Dal Dhokli at Home: When it's winter and you're craving something warm and comforting, homemade Dal Dhokli (or Dal ka Dulha) is simply delightful. This dish is not only delicious but also nutritious. The spices and protein from the lentils are incredibly beneficial for keeping the body warm during the winter months.

This dish is quite popular in some states of India. Dal Dhokli is a dish that all family members can easily enjoy. It doesn't take much time to prepare, and it's easy to make at home with simple ingredients. If made correctly, the taste is so perfect that it's delicious with rice, roti, or even on its own.
Ingredients
Toor Dal – 1 cup
Wheat Flour – 2 tablespoons
Turmeric powder, Red chili powder
Tomatoes
Onions
Green chilies and Ginger
Asafoetida, Oil or Ghee – 1 tablespoon
Salt – to taste
Method
To make Dal Dhokli, first soak the toor dal in water for 1-2 hours. This helps the dal cook faster and makes it easier for the dhokli to cook properly. Then, boil the dal over low heat and add salt, turmeric powder, finely chopped green chilies, and grated ginger. You can also add a pinch of asafoetida for enhanced flavor.
While the dal is cooking, knead the wheat flour with a little salt and make small balls (dhokli) from it. Once the dal is boiling, gently add the dhokli to the boiling dal.
After adding the dhokli, let it cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure the dhokli cooks through. Meanwhile, heat oil or ghee in a small pan and prepare a tempering with finely chopped tomatoes and onions, asafoetida, and red chili powder. Add this tempering to the dal and dhokli.

Finally, garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve the hot Dal Dhokli in a large bowl. Just keep in mind that cooking them for too long can make the dumplings tough, so pay attention to the cooking time.
