DIY Lipstick: Want a natural pink tint for your lips? Here’s how to make homemade lipstick using beetroot and coconut oil..

Lipstick is an essential part of makeup. Most women enjoy wearing lipstick, even if they choose not to apply any other makeup. It is a unique beauty product that can enhance the beauty of your face all on its own. However, daily use can leave your lips feeling dry and lifeless.

This issue becomes even more pronounced during the colder months. In such cases, you can create a tinted lip balm at home using beetroot—an ingredient likely already in your kitchen. Beetroot contains natural pigments that provide color, as well as antioxidants. You don’t need many ingredients to make it; by following a few simple steps, you can prepare a lip balm at home in your preferred shade—whether light or dark. Here is how you can make a lip-tinting product using beetroot.

Ingredients for making the lip balm:
1 medium-sized beetroot
2 teaspoons of coconut or almond oil
1 teaspoon of ghee or petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
1 teaspoon of beeswax
1 Vitamin E capsule (optional)
A small, clean container

Method 1: Light pink tinted lip balm
First, wash and peel the beetroot, then cut it into small pieces. Blend these in a mixer and extract the juice; you will need about 2 teaspoons of concentrated juice. In a bowl, combine the coconut oil, ghee, and beetroot juice, and mix well. Gently heat this mixture for 2–3 minutes using the "double boiler" method—place the bowl over a larger pot containing hot water. Allow the mixture to cool, then stir in the contents of the Vitamin E capsule. Transfer the mixture into a clean container and refrigerate it for about an hour. Your light pink tinted lip balm is now ready.

Method 2: Darker-toned lip tint
Cook the beetroot juice over a low flame. Once the liquid has evaporated and formed a thick paste, turn off the heat. In a separate bowl, melt one teaspoon of beeswax along with two teaspoons of coconut oil. Add half a teaspoon of the thick beetroot paste to this mixture. Stir well, transfer the mixture into a clean container, and allow it to cool.

Benefits of Beetroot Lip Balm
Beetroot imparts a soft pink tint to the lips, while ghee and coconut oil help keep dry lips soft. You can customize the color to your preference; for instance, you can add a small amount of carrot juice to achieve a deeper shade. Please note that it is essential to perform a patch test before applying it. You can store the lip balm in a clean, dry container in the refrigerator for up to 15 days. Additionally, discontinue use if you experience any irritation or itching.
