Whether you are heading to the office, attending a party, or getting ready for a special occasion, makeup can make your face look vibrant and beautiful. However, just as getting dressed up is important, it is equally crucial to remove your makeup properly before going to bed at night. Often, due to fatigue, people fall asleep without removing their makeup; this small act of negligence can, over time, cause significant damage to the skin.

According to experts, leaving makeup, dust, pollution, and sweat on the face for an extended period can clog the skin's pores. This can lead to issues such as acne, dryness, irritation, redness, and a dull, lifeless complexion. Therefore, following a proper skincare routine after wearing makeup is essential.
The process of removing makeup should begin with thorough cleansing. A standard face wash is often insufficient to completely remove waterproof mascara, long-lasting lipstick, or full-coverage foundation. Use a dedicated makeup remover or an oil-based cleanser for this purpose. Never rub your face vigorously, as this can cause the skin to stretch and become irritated.
Extra care should be taken when removing eye makeup, as the skin in this area is extremely delicate. Apply some makeup remover to a cotton pad, hold it against your eyes for a few seconds, and then gently wipe it away. This allows all eye makeup to be removed easily without causing any harm.
'Double cleansing' is the most effective method for a deep clean. First, use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and impurities, then follow up with a water-based face cleanser to wash away any remaining oil or residue.
After cleansing, a toner can be used to help restore and maintain the skin's natural balance. Choose a toner based on your skin type—for instance, hyaluronic acid helps keep the skin hydrated, while aloe vera and glycerin soothe and soften it.
The final step in a skincare routine is applying a moisturizer. Many people believe that oily skin does not require moisturizer, but this is a misconception. Those with oily skin can opt for lightweight, gel-based moisturizers, while those with dry skin can use cream-based ones; these help lock in moisture and keep the skin protected.
