On the back of an explosive century by captain Rohit Sharma (119) and a half-century by Shubman Gill (60), India defeated England by four wickets on Sunday night and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The game had to be stopped for about 35 minutes due to a floodlight malfunction at the Barabaati Stadium in Cuttack. When the floodlight malfunctioned, India's score was 48 runs without any loss. One of the eight floodlights installed near the 'clock tower' failed, due to which the players had to leave the field. Now a controversy has started in the whole matter.

After the malfunction of the 'floodlight' and the embarrassment caused by it, the Odisha government is in a mood of strictness. Odisha government's Sports Minister Suraj Suryavanshi gave a statement after the match that the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) will be questioned in this matter. Suraj was present in the stadium with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other senior ministers during this time.
Suraj Suryavanshi said, 'An explanation will be sought from the OCA regarding the floodlight malfunction. This incident happened despite the OCA taking all precautions and making extensive prior arrangements.' However, OCA secretary Sanjay Behera said that each floodlight tower was connected to two generators. Behera told reporters, 'When one generator malfunctioned, we started the second generator, but it took some time to remove the generator, as the players' vehicle was parked between the tower and the second generator.'
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack, Sophia Firdous, who was present in the stadium, condemned the floodlight malfunction. She said, 'Whatever happened in Barabati Stadium today is very unfortunate. There should be an impartial investigation into it.' You will remember that this is India's last ODI series before the Champions Trophy. After taking a 2-0 lead in the series, India will play its last match in Ahmedabad on February 12.
