The Indian team has released young fast bowler Harshit Rana from the team before the second Test match against England. Harshit was not included in India's 18-member squad, but he was included in the team as a cover before the first Test match. Harshit was present in Leeds with the Indian team. Harshit was part of the India A team and took part in the first unofficial Test against England Lions.

Harshit made his debut on the Australia tour.
India had to face defeat in the first Test match played in Leeds. A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told news agency PTI, "Harshit Rana has been released from the team. He has not gone to Birmingham for the second Test with the Indian team." Harshit made his debut for the Indian team on the Australia tour last year, but he was not given a place in the 18-member squad against England. The 23-year-old fast bowler has played two Tests, five ODIs, and one T20 match for India so far.
23-year-old Harshit from Delhi is considered to be a disciple of head coach Gautam Gambhir. He is known for making the ball bounce on the pitch with full force. He made headlines by tricking Travis Head with his off-cutter ball at Perth ground in Australia. However, with time it has become clear that he will have to improve his bowling further to play red-ball matches at the top level.
Mukesh Kumar and Anshul Kamboj are considered better bowlers than Harshit in the conditions of England, but questions were also raised on this bowler of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) getting preference over these two. Gambhir had said on Tuesday after India's defeat in the first Test match, "I will discuss with the chairman of the selection committee about Harshit Rana. He was stopped due to some minor problems. Now everything is fine. I will discuss and then we will decide on it."

The Indian team for the England tour is as follows...
Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper and vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
