In the month of June, the scorching sun and hot winds take a severe toll on the body. Intense heat significantly increases the risk of heatstroke and heat stress. However, our traditional diet holds beneficial remedies to combat these issues.

Chutneys are often included in the diet during this season to protect the body from the harsh heat. While raw mango (*kairi*) and mint chutneys are the most popular choices, which one is more effective against heat stress? Let’s find out.
**Raw Mango Chutney**
Excessive sweating during summer often leads to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, increasing the risk of heatstroke. When black salt, roasted cumin, and regular salt are added to raw mango chutney, it acts as an excellent electrolyte supplement. It helps prevent fluid loss and reduces the risk of dehydration.
Additionally, raw mango helps the body regulate its temperature. Therefore, consuming *Aam Panna* (raw mango drink) or raw mango chutney can prove highly beneficial in protecting against heatstroke during the summer.
**Mint Chutney**
Exposure to sun and heat can slow down digestion, leading to heaviness in the stomach, gas, and bloating. Mint’s anti-inflammatory properties soothe the stomach, while its menthol content provides a cooling sensation. Mint also cools the body from within and alleviates heat-induced restlessness. Adding curd, coriander, and lemon juice to mint chutney further enhances its cooling properties and benefits.

**Which one is more beneficial?**
When it comes to directly preventing heatstroke and heat stress, as well as combating dehydration, raw mango chutney holds a slight edge. This is because the body requires sodium and minerals to protect against heatstroke, and raw mango (*kairi*) chutney provides these in abundance.
However, this does not mean that mint is not beneficial. Mint chutney is excellent for soothing internal body heat and aiding digestion.
