Shivling Parikrama Ke Niyam: Parikrama has special significance in Hinduism. Parikrama means moving around a holy place or deity, which is always done in the left direction. It is also called Pradakshina and is considered an essential part of worship. This tradition is very ancient and has been going on since the Vedic period. Parikrama has a very sacred and spiritual significance in the worship of gods and goddesses, due to which devotees receive their grace and blessings.

Violation of Somsutra is forbidden in the circumambulation of Lord Shiva.
The entire universe is considered similar to Jyotirlinga. The rule of circumambulating Shivaji is only half because Shiva's Somsutra is not crossed. When a person does half circumambulation, it is called Chandrakar Parikrama. Shivling is considered a symbol of light and the area around it is similar to the moon. Just as there is Venus star above the crescent in the sky, similarly Shivling is also a form of that symbol. The purity of Shivling is called Somsutra and according to the scriptures, it is forbidden to cross this Somsutra while doing Parikrama of Lord Shiva.

Somsutra is a source of energy.
Somsutra contains the center of energy and power, so spreading the legs while crossing it hinders its flow. This hinders the circulation of Devadatta and Dhananjay Vayu in the body, which hurts both the mind and the body. Therefore, in the scriptures, it has been instructed to do the Parikrama of Lord Shiva in a half i.e. semi-circular shape.

Which rules should be followed while doing Parikrama?
According to the scriptures, if Somsutra is covered with any cover like grass, wood, leaves, stone or brick, then its violation does not cause fault. Parikrama of Shivling should always be started from the left side. Parikrama has to be done by walking in front of Jaladhari (water part). After reaching the water source, the entire Parikrama should be completed by returning in the opposite direction.
