Summer Skin Care: Sunscreen is essential for skin care in summer; learn the right way to apply it...

Summer has begun. Before stepping out, we must keep a few important things in mind. For example, always use sunscreen before going out in the sun. Sunscreen acts as a protective shield for your skin, protecting it from the sun's UV rays, both UVA and UVB. Whether it's summer or winter, indoors or outdoors, UV rays are present everywhere and can damage the skin over time.

Why is sunscreen important?
Protects against tanning and sunburn
UVB rays cause tanning and burns.
Prevents wrinkles, aging, and blemishes
UVA rays reach the inner layers of the skin and cause premature aging.

Reduces the risk of skin cancer
Regular sunscreen use is scientifically proven to reduce the risk of skin cancer.
Maintains skin brightness
UV rays increase melanin, which darkens the skin; sunscreen controls this.

When is the best time to apply sunscreen?

Before going to bed at night
B Immediately after sun exposure
C Only during the rainy season
D 15–20 minutes before going out

The right way to apply sunscreen
Sunscreen is only effective when applied properly.
Applying too little or applying it too late doesn't help.

1. Choose the right SPF
SPF 30–50 is sufficient for everyday use.
If you're going to be in strong sunlight, heat, or at the beach, choose SPF 50+.
Always use a sunscreen with broad-spectrum (UVA + UVB protection).

2. Follow the two-finger rule for the face
For the face and neck,
A two-finger line of sunscreen is considered sufficient.
Applying too little does not provide complete protection.

3. Apply 15–20 minutes before going out
Sunscreen takes time to set into the skin.
Applying it immediately and then going out into the sun doesn't provide its full effect.

4. Reapply every 2–3 hours
Sweat, dust, and the sun's heat diminish the effectiveness of sunscreen.
If you plan to spend extended periods in the sun, reapplying every 2–3 hours is essential.

5. Apply under makeup and on children

Sunscreen can also serve as a base for makeup.
Children's skin is thin and sensitive, so sunscreen is essential for them as well.

6. Apply not just to the face, but to all exposed areas, including the neck, ears, hands, arms, and legs.
Many times, people cover only their faces, leaving the rest of their skin tanned.
The easiest and most effective way to protect your skin from UV damage is to apply sunscreen daily.
Choose the right SPF, apply a sufficient amount, apply before going out, and reapply frequently.
With these rules, your skin will remain healthy, glowing, and youthful for a long time.
