Today is Indira Ekadashi; this simple remedy involving the Peepal tree will eliminate a years-old *Pitra Dosh*..

In Hinduism, there are a total of 24 Ekadashis in a year, each holding its own unique significance. However, 'Indira Ekadashi,' which falls during the *Krishna Paksha* (waning phase of the moon) of the Ashwin month, is considered particularly special. This is because it is associated with one's ancestors (*Pitris*). Occurring during the *Shradh Paksha* (the fortnight dedicated to honoring ancestors), this Ekadashi is deemed highly sacred for performing *Pitru Tarpan* (offering water to ancestors) and *Shradh* rituals.

If you are facing unexplained troubles at home or grappling with the ill effects of *Pitru Dosha* (ancestral affliction), simple remedies involving the lighting of lamps today can help you. Indira Ekadashi is being observed today, October 6, 2026. Let us find out where it is considered auspicious to light a lamp on this day.

1. Remedy involving the Peepal tree
If you wish to be relieved of *Pitru Dosha*, make sure to light a lamp filled with sesame oil or pure *ghee* beneath a Peepal tree on the evening of Indira Ekadashi. According to the scriptures, deities reside within the Peepal tree. It is believed that performing this single remedy facilitates easy liberation from ancestral debts (*Pitru Rin*) and brings peace and contentment to the souls of one's ancestors.

2. Remedy involving the main entrance of the house
Be sure to light a lamp at the main entrance of your home on the night of Ekadashi. It is believed that seeing the light at the doorway prevents the souls of ancestors from losing their way. This lamp also brings positive energy into the home.

3. Remedy involving the kitchen
The kitchen is considered the most sacred space dedicated to Goddess Annapurna. One should definitely light a lamp in the kitchen on the night of Ekadashi. This pleases the ancestors and invokes their blessings.

4. Lighting a lamp by the riverbank
In the *Puranas*, rivers are revered as manifestations of the Divine Mother. Offering a lamp (*Deepdaan*) on the banks of the Ganga, Yamuna, or any sacred river on this day helps ancestors attain the divine realm (*Divya Loka*). It is believed that if you cannot find a river or are unable to visit one, you can simply fill a vessel (such as a *lota* or *kalash*) with water at home and place a lamp beside it.

5. Light a lamp near Mother Tulsi
Tulsi is extremely dear to Shri Hari. Lighting a lamp near the Tulsi plant in the evening pleases Lord Vishnu very quickly. Moreover, when Lord Vishnu’s grace is bestowed, the souls of one's ancestors naturally attain peace.

6. Offer a lamp at a temple or shrine
Make sure to visit a nearby Vishnu temple and light a lamp. Doing so washes away sins committed unknowingly and helps the souls of ancestors find the path to salvation (*Moksha*).
