Amarnath Yatra 2026: The Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 is set to commence on July 3 and will continue until August 28, 2026 (Raksha Bandhan). Before the start of the pilgrimage, on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha performed the traditional 'Pratham Puja' (first prayer), formally inaugurating the journey to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani. Now, lakhs of devotees from across the country are preparing to set out for the darshan of Baba Amarnath.

If you are also planning to undertake the Amarnath Yatra this time, it is essential to know what items to pack and what to avoid before you start. Proper preparation can make your journey safe and comfortable. Let us find out what to carry for the Amarnath Yatra and what to leave behind...
**Must-carry essential items**
The Amarnath Yatra takes place at a high altitude where weather conditions can change rapidly. Therefore, do not overlook the need for warm clothing. Ensure your bag contains thermal innerwear, woolen sweaters, windcheaters or waterproof jackets, woolen caps, mufflers, gloves, and extra socks. Given the possibility of rain, also carry a raincoat or a poncho.
**Don't forget essential medicines**
If you regularly take medication for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or asthma, ensure you carry an adequate supply. Additionally, your first-aid kit should include medicines for fever, pain, the common cold, vomiting, and diarrhea, along with bandages, antiseptic cream, and ORS. Also, carry the prescriptions issued by your doctor.
**Mandatory documents to carry**
During the journey, keep your Yatra Registration Slip, Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC), and Aadhaar card or another valid photo identity proof with you. Lack of these documents could lead to entry issues at various points. Along with physical printouts, keep digital copies saved on your mobile phone. Also, save the list provided by the concerned department on your phone. Useful items to carry
Carry a torch, spare batteries or a power bank, mobile charger, sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, a water bottle, dry fruits, energy bars, and glucose during your trip. Sunlight is intense in high-altitude areas, so sunglasses and sunscreen prove to be very useful.
What not to carry?
Do not carry excessively heavy luggage.
Avoid carrying expensive jewelry or large amounts of cash.
Do not litter or throw plastic waste around.
Do not carry alcohol, tobacco, or any intoxicants.
Do not use oxygen or other medications without a doctor's advice.

Points to remember during the trip
Oxygen levels are lower at high altitudes, so do not rush the climb. Ensure you stay hydrated, rest at intervals, and follow the instructions issued by the administration and security forces. Seek immediate medical assistance if you experience breathing difficulties, dizziness, or chest pain.
