When you set out from home for an auspicious task, you naturally desire its success—hoping for a hundred percent positive outcome. This is why, before heading out for an exam or an interview, mothers often offer curd and sugar. The underlying belief is that consuming something sweet before leaving ensures an auspicious start.

Curd symbolizes the Moon, while sugar represents the planet Venus. The Moon governs the mind, and Venus is the significator of material comforts and luxuries. Consuming this combination harmonizes these planets, keeping your mind steady and enabling you to make sound decisions. A propitious beginning increases the likelihood of favorable results. In this context, knowing which foot to step out with first is important.
Right or Left: Which foot should come first?
When stepping out for an auspicious endeavor—such as starting a new job, a business venture, or a journey—you should lead with your right foot as you cross the main threshold. The right side of the body is considered auspicious. Consequently, you will notice that the right hand is predominantly used in any *Manglik* (auspicious) ritual.
For instance, the *Raksha Sutra* (protective thread) is tied on the right wrist, *Havan* rituals are performed using the right hand, and the bride and groom join hands (*Panigrahan Sanskar*) with their right hands during the wedding ceremony. Similarly, a sister ties the *Rakhi* on her brother's right wrist.

When initiating a task, it is best to begin with the right hand rather than the left.
Likewise, when leaving the house, step out through the main entrance with your right foot while chanting the mantra "Om Gam Ganapataye Namo Namah." Invoking Lord Ganesha through this mantra for the fulfillment of wishes ensures an auspicious start and the success of your task. His blessings will bring auspiciousness into your life.
