Bank Holidays This Week: Banks to Remain Closed for Up to 3 Days in Several States; Check RBI Holiday Schedule Before Visiting a Branch

Bank Holidays in August 2026: If you are planning to visit a bank branch this week for cash transactions, cheque deposits, passbook updates, or other important banking work, it is advisable to check the latest holiday schedule first. According to the Reserve Bank of India's holiday calendar, bank branches in certain parts of the country will remain closed on selected days due to regional festivals and the regular weekend holidays.

While banks across India are functioning normally on Monday, August 3, customers in some states may experience branch closures between August 4 and August 9. However, digital banking services will continue to operate without interruption.

Bank Holiday Schedule for This Week

Based on the RBI holiday calendar, the following bank holidays are scheduled during the first full week of August.

Banks located in Tripura, including branches in Agartala, will remain closed on account of Ker Puja, a regional festival observed in the state.

Customers in other states are expected to receive normal banking services.

August 8 (Saturday): Second Saturday and Tendong Lho Rum Faat

August 8 is the Second Saturday, which is a nationwide bank holiday for all scheduled banks, including public and private sector lenders.

Additionally, banks in Sikkim will also observe a holiday for Tendong Lho Rum Faat, an important festival celebrated by the Lepcha community.

As a result, branches of banks such as SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and other scheduled commercial banks will remain closed across the country.

August 9 (Sunday): Weekly Holiday

All bank branches across India will remain closed on Sunday, August 9, due to the regular weekly holiday.

Customers are advised to complete urgent branch-related work before the weekend.

Banking Services That Will Continue During Holidays

Although physical bank branches may remain closed on the above dates, most digital banking services will continue to function normally.

Customers can continue using:

  • UPI payment services
  • Mobile banking applications
  • Internet banking
  • IMPS, NEFT and RTGS (as applicable)
  • Debit and credit card transactions
  • ATM cash withdrawals
  • Cash deposit machines
  • Balance enquiry and mini statement services

These facilities remain available throughout the year, allowing customers to complete most routine banking transactions without visiting a branch.

Plan Branch Visits in Advance

Customers who need services that require physical branch assistance—such as demand drafts, cheque clearance, KYC updates, locker access, or account-related documentation—should plan their visits according to the RBI holiday schedule.

Checking the holiday calendar in advance can help avoid unnecessary travel and delays, especially during weeks that include regional festivals and weekend closures.
