EPFO 3.0: Will the facility to withdraw PF via UPI-ATM begin after Diwali? EPFO’s master plan! Find out more..

A major relief is in the works for salaried individuals regarding their Provident Fund (PF). Soon, there will be no need to wait for the standard claim and settlement process to withdraw PF funds. The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is upgrading its digital infrastructure. As part of this initiative—referred to as 'EPFO 3.0'—the organization plans to enable account holders to withdraw PF funds via ATMs and UPI. This means that in the future, individuals will be able to withdraw money directly from an ATM to cover expenses such as medical treatment, children's education, or weddings.

However, this facility is not yet available to all account holders; the system is currently undergoing development and testing.

How will this facility work?
Under the proposed system, PF accounts will be linked to the banking network and ATM/UPI infrastructure. To achieve this, the EPFO is integrating its systems with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). The system will automatically verify an account holder's eligibility and the withdrawal amount.

Once verified, eligible members will be able to withdraw funds using an ATM card. Additionally, withdrawals may also be facilitated through UPI or the official EPFO app.

How much can be withdrawn via UPI?
Under current regulations, at least 25% of the total EPF balance must remain in the subscriber's account. For specific needs—such as education, weddings, or housing—subscribers are permitted to withdraw up to 75% of their accumulated EPF balance. The remaining 25% stays in the account and continues to earn tax-free interest.

PF funds accessible in minutes
Once this new facility is launched, EPFO subscribers will no longer have to endure long waiting periods to withdraw their PF funds. Most importantly, this new system will link the UAN portal to the user's UPI account, making the withdrawal process significantly faster and more convenient than it is today.

When will this facility become available?
According to reports, this facility is expected to be launched by the end of December. It should be noted, however, that the process is currently undergoing testing, and the final launch date has yet to be announced. Once implemented, this system will benefit millions of employees and significantly simplify their work.
