Feeding a hungry person yields these 6 rewards; it leads to salvation spanning seven generations..

Feeding the hungry is considered an act of great merit. We have heard this often, but does anyone know the specific rewards one reaps from doing so? References to this can be found in the *Anushasana Parva* and *Danadharma Parva* (specifically chapters 63, 66, and 117) of the *Mahabharata*. According to the *Mahabharata*, there is no act of charity greater than feeding a hungry person until they are satiated; this is termed *Mahadaan* (the supreme act of charity).

If you feed a hungry person, you attain six significant benefits. Let us explore them:

**Salvation for Generations**
Feeding a hungry person leads to the spiritual upliftment and salvation of seven generations of your lineage. Your future generations will never face a shortage of food.

**Attainment of *Shivaloka***
It is stated that a person who feeds the hungry or donates food attains *Shivaloka* (the abode of Lord Shiva). Conversely, those who do not do so are destined to remain hungry in the afterlife.

**Appeasing Goddess Lakshmi**
If someone is facing financial hardship, they should certainly feed a hungry person. Doing so pleases Goddess Lakshmi, even if she was previously displeased.

**Never a Shortage of Funds**
When you feed the hungry or donate food, you will never run short of money for charity, regardless of any financial constraints you might face. Furthermore, while the donor may not necessarily become wealthy, they will always have funds available when the need arises.

**Increase in Strength**
Feeding a hungry person restores strength to their body, and in turn, enhances your own vitality. It is also believed that when feeding the hungry, one should provide enough food to fully satisfy their hunger; this practice ensures that one's own home remains ever-abundant with food.

**Fulfillment of All Desires**
This is because the donation of food (*Annadaan*) is regarded as the supreme form of charity. In such a case, the person who makes this offering is hailed as a great benefactor. God Himself becomes a devotee of such individuals and fulfills all their wishes.

Therefore, feeding the hungry is a way of steering one's life onto the path of betterment.
