That is, Ganga ji is the root of all joy and auspiciousness. She is the one who gives all the happiness and removes all the pain. It is said in the Puranas that after years of penance, King Bhagirath succeeded in bringing Ganga to earth on the day of Jyeshtha Shukla Dashami. The glory and importance of Ganga have been described in all the texts like Indian scriptures, Puranas Upanishads, etc. Ganga has been a symbol of Indian culture and the capital of faith for thousands of years. It is said in the scriptures that the water of Ganga is Amrit and Mokshadayini.

"Ganga Dussehra" is an important festival in Hinduism which is dedicated to the worship of the River Ganga. This festival is celebrated on the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month Jyeshtha. On this auspicious occasion, the descent of Ganga from heaven to earth is commemorated. Before her incarnation on earth, the river Ganga was part of heaven. Then on the tenth day of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month, Lord Shiva opened one of his matted locks and the river Ganga descended on earth. King Bhagirath made a way for Ganga ji through the difficult paths of the Himalayas to the plains. After this, King Bhagirath liberated his ancestors by offering water to them. Bhagirath's ancestors got salvation and since then Ganga ji has been flowing uninterrupted on earth. In the present times, a person living a material life should worship Maa Ganga to get rid of the sins that are committed knowingly or unknowingly. It means that whoever has committed sins and who repents for his actions and wants to get rid of, he must worship Maa Ganga with a true heart.

According to the Vedic calendar, the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month will start on June 04 at 11:54 pm and the next day i.e. on June 06, the date will end at 02:15 am. Thus, Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on June 05.
