Most households have a large water tank to ensure a continuous water supply. This tank provides water for the kitchen, bathroom, and other domestic needs. However, it is essential to clean it periodically.

If the tank is not cleaned for a long time, algae and dirt begin to accumulate inside, which can compromise water quality. If algae has built up in your water tank, the methods described here can prove effective in removing it.
What is the first step to loosen algae accumulated in the water tank?
Mix bleach or chlorine into the tank water and let it sit for 11–12 hours.
Apply a paste of baking powder and vinegar.
Scrub and clean immediately using a brush or scrubber.
Use a paste made of dishwashing liquid and salt.
What should you do first if you spot algae?
– If algae has accumulated inside the tank, the first step is to loosen it. To do this, mix bleach or chlorine into the tank water and leave it for about 11 to 12 hours. This weakens the algae and dirt, making cleaning easier. Ensure that you use the correct proportion of bleach or chlorine.
– Once the time is up, drain all the water from the tank. Next, prepare a thick paste by mixing baking powder, vinegar, and a little water. Apply this paste thoroughly to the inner walls and the bottom of the tank. Let it sit for about an hour. Afterward, scrub the surfaces vigorously using a brush or scrubber. This method helps remove stubborn stains and algae.
– If you prefer another simple method, you can use a paste made of dishwashing liquid and salt. Apply it to the tank's surface and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then, scrub thoroughly with a brush and finally rinse the entire tank with lukewarm water.

Keep these points in mind during cleaning:
Prioritize safety while cleaning the tank. Always wear gloves. Do not enter the tank wearing slippers; instead, cover your feet with plastic before stepping inside. If possible, clean the tank from the outside by attaching a cloth or brush to a long bamboo pole or stick. Do not use the tank water for any household chores during the cleaning process. Keep children away while the tank is being cleaned.
