Healthcare for Pregnant Women: Pregnancy is a very special and sensitive phase in a woman's life. The first three months—the first trimester—are considered particularly crucial for both the mother and the developing baby. During this period, the baby's major organs begin to develop; therefore, even minor negligence regarding diet, lifestyle, or health can be harmful.

Many women experience issues such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, weakness, and hormonal changes during this time. If a family member has recently confirmed a pregnancy, special care is required in the early stages. Let us look at what should be done and what should be avoided during the early days of pregnancy.
1. Get a medical check-up early
Once pregnancy is confirmed, it is essential to visit a gynecologist for an initial check-up without delay.
During the initial examination, the doctor assesses the condition of both the mother and the developing baby.
If necessary, blood tests, urine tests, ultrasounds, and other examinations are conducted to detect any health issues in a timely manner.
Regular check-ups can also help reduce the risk of complications during pregnancy.
2. Take folic acid and essential medications on time
The first few weeks of pregnancy are critical for the development of the baby's brain, spinal cord, and other vital organs.
Therefore, doctors usually recommend taking folic acid tablets.
Additionally, iron, calcium, or other supplements may be prescribed based on individual needs.
Do not take any medication, herbal product, or supplement without consulting a doctor, as some medicines can be harmful to the developing baby.
3. Consume a nutritious and balanced diet
During pregnancy, the mother's diet directly affects the baby's development.
Therefore, include green leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits, lentils, whole grains, milk, yogurt, paneer, eggs (if consumed), and protein-rich foods in your diet. Limit the consumption of fast food, excessively fried foods, and packaged foods.
Avoid staying on an empty stomach for long periods and drink plenty of clean water throughout the day to keep the body hydrated.
4. Get adequate rest
Fatigue, weakness, and increased sleepiness are common during the early stages of pregnancy due to hormonal changes.
In such a situation, it is essential to give your body enough rest.
Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily and rest during the day as well if you feel the need.
Avoid lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and strenuous physical exertion.
Adequate rest keeps the body healthy and supports the development of the unborn baby.

5. Stay completely away from smoking, alcohol, and tobacco
Consuming alcohol, tobacco, or any form of intoxicants during pregnancy can pose serious risks to both the mother and the baby.
It can increase the risk of miscarriage, premature delivery, low birth weight, and congenital defects.
If anyone in the family smokes, the pregnant woman should also be protected from secondhand smoke.
Staying completely away from intoxicants is the safest choice for a healthy pregnancy.
