The monsoon in Delhi-NCR has been fluctuating constantly this season. Alternating spells of heavy rain and intense sunshine accompanied by high humidity are causing discomfort for residents. With no rainfall over the past three days, the impact of humid heat is clearly being felt in the capital. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a new forecast for August and September.

Has the monsoon slowed down in Delhi?
Rainfall was recorded in Delhi on only 11 days throughout July. However, the total rainfall during this period was 261.52 mm, surpassing the 259.11 mm recorded in July of the previous year. Despite this, the lack of continuous rainfall has left people grappling with humid conditions.

The capital has not received significant rainfall since July 29. On Friday, the weather saw an interplay of clouds and sunshine throughout the day, but no rain occurred. Strong winds provided some relief, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C and the minimum at 27.2°C.

What will the weather be like over the next six days?
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light rain is expected in Delhi between August 1 and August 6. During the first week of August, the maximum temperature is projected to range between 32°C and 35°C, and the minimum between 22°C and 26°C. Temperatures may drop during the first three days, while a rise of one to two degrees is anticipated in the subsequent days.

What will rainfall be like in August and September?
In its nationwide forecast, the Meteorological Department has stated that most regions may receive below-normal rainfall during August and September. Rainfall during these two months is projected to be less than 94 percent of the Long Period Average (LPA). However, above-normal rainfall is predicted for Peninsular India, Central India, the northern parts of Northwest India, and some areas of the Northeast.

Rain and floods impact conditions across the country
Daily life in several states across the country has been disrupted by heavy rains, floods, and landslides. The Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir.
Floods in Assam have claimed 80 lives so far, affecting 2.12 lakh people across 437 villages in eight districts.

The Kedarnath Yatra resumed after the weather cleared in Uttarakhand, with 4,500 pilgrims setting out from Sonprayag.

A doctor couple died and their daughter was injured in separate incidents involving a cloudburst in Manali and a rockfall in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
In Gujarat, 1,500 people have been evacuated following torrential rains; a 'Red Alert' has been issued for 13 districts, including Surat and Anand.
