After being eliminated from the ICC Champions Trophy, another big name has been added to the list of players who have said goodbye to ODI cricket. After the semi-final defeat, Australia captain Steve Smith announced his retirement from ODIs, and now Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim has also decided to leave this format. The wicketkeeper-batsman cited "a few challenging weeks" as the reason for his decision, which made him realize that it was time to hang up his ODI career.

37-year-old Mushfiqur said in a post on the social media platform Facebook that Bangladesh has achieved limited achievements at the international level, but they have given more than 100 percent. I am announcing my retirement from the ODI format today. Mushfiqur wrote. "Thank God for everything. Our achievements may be limited on the global stage but one thing is certain whenever I stepped on the field for my country, I gave more than 100 percent with dedication and honesty." “The last few weeks have been very challenging for me, and I have realized that this is my destiny. Finally, I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years,”
Mushfiqur retired as the second-highest run-scorer in Bangladesh's ODI history with 7795 runs in 274 matches. These include 9 centuries and 49 half-centuries. He scored these runs at an average of 36.42. He also has 243 catches and 56 stumpings to his name. Mushfiqur made his ODI debut in 2006. The same year he captained Bangladesh in the Under-19 World Cup and scored his first half-century against Zimbabwe in Harare. His second half-century came in a memorable win against India in the 2007 ODI World Cup in the Caribbean.
Mushfiqur Rahim's performance in the Champions Trophy was disappointing. Bangladesh team was eliminated early from the tournament without a single win. After registering a golden duck against India in the team's first match of the tournament, he scored 2 runs against New Zealand. The third and final match against Pakistan was abandoned without a toss.
