But he was not selected for the team. At the last moment, Laxman was dropped and Dinesh Mongia was included in the team. This is one of the most controversial decisions of India in the World Cup. However, later the then-captain of Team India, Sourav Ganguly, also admitted that not selecting Laxman for the team was a big mistake.

Team India's fast bowler Ishant Sharma played more than 100 Tests for India. Ishant took 311 wickets in 105 Tests while he played 80 matches in ODIs. He has 115 wickets in his name in ODIs. Ishant, one of the tallest fast bowlers of the Indian team, was also selected in the 2015 World Cup team but he was out before the tournament started due to injury. Ishant could not return to the ODI format after 2016.

Ambati Rayudu played 55 ODIs
